Titel: Yield Component Dynamics under Nitrogen Stress: A Lens into Breeding-Relevant Biodiversity in Triticale
Abstract:
Grain yield of cereals results from the interplay of several yield components, and their relative importance can shift with nitrogen supply. Using a diverse panel of 450 triticale genotypes, we studied variance components and genetic correlations of key yield components under two nitrogen fertilization levels. The findings show how traits such as grain number per ear, kernel weight, and ear density contribute differently to yield formation depending on nitrogen input and genotype. This highlights the plasticity of yield determination in triticale and offers insight for breeding strategies aimed at improved performance under reduced nitrogen fertilization.
